Description:
American Progress is seeking a Director of Broadcast Communications. The Director will serve as a senior member of the Communications department and will be responsible for overseeing all interactions and partnerships with broadcast media (TV, digital streaming, radio, and podcasts).Oversee American Progress’ TV, digital streaming, radio, and podcast program. Cultivate and maintain relationships with bookers, producers, and reporters. Actively pitch American Progress staff and analyses for broadcast appearances, including handling the necessary logistics and managing preparation and research.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. A minimum of seven to nine years of experience in media and/or communications; background in broadcast media is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee American Progress’ TV, digital streaming, radio, and podcast program.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with bookers, producers, and reporters.
• Actively pitch American Progress staff and analyses for broadcast appearances, including handling the necessary logistics and managing preparation and research.
• Prepare and brief executive leadership for TV interviews.
• Create and disseminate materials such as memos and talking points.
• Run individual and group media trainings for staff at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of seven to nine years of experience in media and/or communications; background in broadcast media is strongly preferred.
• Experience preparing a principal for media appearances, or experience in media training, is a plus.
• Existing relationships with hosts, broadcast reporters, producers, and bookers.
• Strong interest in media and public policy.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team.
