Description:
Colorado Senator Michael Bennet seeks a Communications Director to lead an active communications team, serve as chief spokesperson, and manage overall strategic direction for the senator’s public engagement and communications. The role requires exceptional oral and written communication skills, a strong understanding of political communications, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Director: Works closely with the Senator, Chief of Staff, legislative, and state staff. Develops and oversees messaging strategy for the Senator and the office. Manages a communications team, including a press secretary, press/digital assistant and a digital strategist. Builds relationships and works closely with state and national media. Writes, edits, or approves all press releases, speeches, op-eds, talking points, and oversees social media and assists in planning press events.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has: A minimum of 6 years of experience in communications or public relations Experience working on Capitol Hill, in the administration, or on a political campaign. Relationships and experience working with reporters and editors, as well as on-the-record experience. Strong writing skills, is detail-oriented, and can maintain a sense of humor and positive attitude in a fast-paced environment. Ties to Colorado and Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.
