Midwest Republican Senator and senior appropriator seeks a Military Legislative Assistant (MLA) to join their Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
The MLA will be responsible for committees of jurisdiction, including Veterans Affairs’, Appropriations, and Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense as well as monitor related agencies including the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. The MLA will also work with stakeholders from three major military assets in the state. Other duties include preparing written and verbal briefs; reviewing legislation and spearheading defense and veterans legislative initiatives; staffing and advising the Senator when pertinent; planning in-state and overseas travel; and working extensively on the NDAA process.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a proactive approach to developing legislative ideas and be able to work under tight deadlines. They should also be prompt, organized and detail oriented, display strong interpersonal skills, and possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities. This is not an entry level position. The most qualified applicants will have relevant experience and background.
