Description:
The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Office of Ranking Member Senator Gary Peters, is accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Law Clerk, Press Intern and Graduate/Undergraduate program. Students will gain substantive experience while participating in the oversight, investigations, and legislative processes. Students will assist Committee staff in conducting policy and legal research, reviewing documents, preparing for hearings and markups, and drafting letters, memoranda, and other written products. Applicants must be current students with a demonstrated interest in public service and the legislative process. Qualified candidates will possess strong writing skills, be able to excel in a fast-paced environment and have a basic understanding of the legislative process. Interns will assist staff in performing research, drafting letters and memos, attend hearings, and provide general administrative support to the Committee. Law Clerks will work under the direction of Committee staff. Students will: participate in Congressional oversight and investigations; conduct research on topics within the Committee’s jurisdiction; provide technical and legal analysis of pending legislation; assist with hearing preparation, including drafting witness letters, witness lists, materials for briefing books for the Member, and pre- and post-hearing questions.
