The office of Senator Mazie K. Hirono of Hawaii seeks an experienced Communications Director to lead both press and messaging strategy. This is a senior-level position reporting to the Chief of Staff. Candidates with previous management experience, strong strategic vision and planning, and excellent writing and editing skills are encouraged
Responsibilities:
include providing strategic counsel to the Senator and staff on messaging, communication, and media relations; liaising with the legislative and state teams to ensure clear communication of the Senator’s legislative and in-state efforts; and managing a communications team. Additional may include drafting statements, press releases, op-eds, and speeches. Ideal candidates will possess a network of media contacts, and are hardworking, proactive and detail-oriented communicators with a positive attitude who work well under deadlines. The position is based in the Senator’s Washington D.C. office with occasional travel.
