Colorado Senator Michael Bennet seeks a Legislative Counsel to manage a dynamic portfolio focused on judiciary issues, including: immigration, judicial nominations, criminal justice, civil rights and labor.
This senior-level policy position is responsible for overseeing and monitoring pending legislation, drafting bills and amendments, identifying legislative priorities, developing policy proposals and strategies, and providing vote recommendations and briefings to the Senator. Additionally, the role involves supervising junior staff, engaging with relevant Committee, House and Senate staff and building partnerships with key stakeholders, and collaborating closely with state-based staff.
Ideal candidates are hardworking detail-oriented self-starters, team players, able to work both collaboratively and individually, are excellent oral and written communicators, with superior research skills, able to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines, enthusiastic, collegial, and professional. A strong knowledge of the legislative process is required. A J.D. is preferred. Western ties and Hill experience are a plus.
