Description:
The American Soybean Association’s (ASA) Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C. is seeking a government affairs director to lead its trade policy portfolio, which includes issues relating to trade, market access, tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, international food aid, foreign ownership, and other issues as assigned.Lead advocacy execution, collaborate across ASA functions and with state affiliates, serve as lead ASA Government Affairs liaison to the U.S. Soybean Export Council and World Initiative for Soy in Human Health, and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business, political science, or related field. Strong communication skills. Strong writing skills, including the ability to develop both technical policy documents and summary documents of complex issues.
Responsibilities:
• Direct trade policy advocacy efforts, including drafting public comments, formal testimony, and letters
• Engage with trade negotiators, lawmakers, embassies, and their staff
• Coordinate closely with ASA’s state affiliates
• Develop advocacy materials
Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of experience working on legislative or agricultural trade matters
• Strong organizational and collaborative skills
• Ability to learn and work independently and proactively
• Can-do attitude
• Team-oriented approach
• Ability to maintain security clearance with the U.S. government
