Description:
The Government Relations Director is part of the Strategic Planning Department and provides advice and counsel on Utah government relations and public policy to leaders within Intermountain Health.Coordinate with a wide variety of individuals throughout the system. Collaborate with and support the Vice President of Government Relations and other leaders within Intermountain by effectively managing Utah government relations strategies and processes.Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Philosophy, Public Administration, or a business-related major involving critical thinking. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate with a wide variety of individuals throughout the system. • Collaborate with and support the Vice President of Government Relations and other leaders within Intermountain by effectively managing Utah government relations strategies and processes. • Counsel senior management and proactively advise senior management about issues, situations, and policy matters that could impact Intermountain’s corporate and financial interests, as well as its image and relationships. • Act as a subject matter expert to assist and advise the Vice President of Government Relations for Intermountain in matters pertaining to Government Relations. • Advise and counsel senior management and trustees to optimize Intermountain’s mission, image/reputation, and relationships with the Utah Legislature. • Create and implement strategic plans; identify and articulate key Intermountain messages; manage issues; act as liaison with other managers and areas within Intermountain; and act as representative of Intermountain in relationships with various outside groups.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Philosophy, Public Administration, or a business-related major involving critical thinking. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. • Experience in a role requiring some knowledge of the healthcare industry and a basic understanding of healthcare financing and Utah’s legislative appropriations process, with a proven ability to successfully pass and prevent legislation. • Experience in a role requiring effective communication skills—both verbal and written—and interpersonal communication skills and group facilitation skills, with strong experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling applications.
