The Democratic Women's Caucus seeks an organized, energetic, and creative Communications Director to join our small but mighty team full-time in Washington, D.C. This role leads the DWC's communications efforts under the supervision and in collaboration with the Executive Director and oversees the Digital Storyteller.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain DWC's public profile by creating and executing a comprehensive communications strategy; Develop and execute DWC's media relations strategy by creating and maintaining relationships with reporters and creators, pitching and placing stories on DWC initiatives, and serving as DWC's spokesperson, including by speaking with journalists on background, off the record, and—when appropriate and authorized—on the record; Manage DWC's Digital Storyteller and oversee their work running multiple digital media platforms, including DWC's website, Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, and producing and designing graphics, videos, and other creative materials; Work with the Digital Storyteller to create and execute communications engagements for DWC Members, including direct-to-cameras, interviews with creators, and compilation videos; Draft press releases, statements, talking points, speeches, and other materials for DWC bills, letters, and press events; Staff the Chairwoman and DWC members during public appearances or interviews when they are speaking on behalf of DWC; Plan and carry out effective caucus press events including press conferences, gaggles, and press calls; Draft messaging guidance documents (i.e.: toolkits) for DWC Members, including talking points, video ideas, and sample social media posts; Build and maintain relationships with communications staff from DWC Members' offices, Democratic leadership, and other caucuses and provide assistance and advice as needed; Assist the Executive Director and Policy and Advocacy Coordinator, as needed, with logistical and administrative support, such as coordinating event and briefing logistics; Work with DWC leadership including the Chair, Vice Chairs, Communications Task Force Co-Chairs and other DWC Members to advance DWC's work; In collaboration with the Digital Storyteller, use resources from House services such as House Creative Services, House Radio TV, and the House Recording Studio to create communications projects (e.g., livestreams and posters); And other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will be excellent writers, social media connoisseurs, detail-oriented, team players, experienced with national press and managing press events, and able to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Experience on Capitol Hill is not required but candidates must have a familiarity with the House and experience working on women's issues is a plus. This is not an entry-level position.
