Description:
The Office of Congressman John Larson (CT-01) seeks a Press Secretary & Digital Director with extensive digital experience to be based in his Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Congressman, Communications Director, and staff to craft cohesive and engaging messaging across platforms. Co-manage the communications fellow with the Communications Director. Write and design innovative social and digital content highlighting the Congressman's district, legislative, and constituent service work and help run the Congressman's official social media accounts. Serve as the primary photographer for the Congressman in D.C. Edit and maintain the Member's website to include relevant updates, press releases, news, photos, and more. Draft and edit press releases, media advisories, statements, and approve daily press clips. Lead the creation of the weekly newsletter to highlight the Congressman's work, email surveys to build the email list, and other mass communications efforts (digital ads, texting, and mailers). Support the Communications Director in responding to local and national media inquiries, pitching stories to reporters, and maintain media lists.
Qualifications:
This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience working with various digital platforms, maintaining websites, and managing social media accounts. Candidates should possess exceptional writing skills, have proficiency in photography (familiarity with DSLR cameras is a major plus), photo and video editing and graphic design tools, and be organized. Candidates should be detail-oriented and highly motivated to serve in a fast-paced environment. Capitol Hill experience is a plus. Connecticut ties are a plus.
