Description:
Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to join her Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
Develop legislative initiatives and collaborate closely with the legislative and communications teams to advance the office priorities; Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas and preparing briefings House floor, committee, in district efforts, and outside House-related activities; Monitoring legislative developments within relevant committees; Planning and coordinating support of legislation; Writing floor speeches; Acting as liaison with committee and agency staff; Performing special projects as assigned; Meeting with constituents and stakeholder groups; Assisting with preparation of weekly reports; and Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
At least two years of relevant legislative experience is required. Hard work, organization, effective time management, and ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment; Analytical capabilities, excellent writing skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and creativity; Willingness to cover a diverse issue portfolio and be responsive to varied concerns and perspectives; Expert knowledge of the legislative process; Strong oral and written communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with the Congresswoman, colleagues, constituents, and external stakeholders.
