Description:
Congressman Tom Suozzi (NY-3), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legislative Assistant to join the Washington, D.C. office. The portfolio will primarily focus on immigration policy, with the potential to cover health, trade, financial services, or other issues based on office needs and the candidate’s expertise. Other priority issues may be added as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
The Legislative Assistant will play a central role in advancing the Congressman’s policy agenda. The position involves drafting legislation, preparing policy memoranda, composing letters and talking points, and providing recommendations on legislative votes. The individual in this role will be responsible for monitoring policy developments, analyzing legislative proposals, and offering strategic guidance on how best to advance the Congressman’s work. The job requires regular engagement with constituents, advocacy organizations, and stakeholders, as well as close coordination with the legislative, communications, and district office staff.
Qualifications:
The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines. Candidates should have prior Capitol Hill or relevant policy experience and a strong understanding of the legislative process, including House procedure and strategic legislative planning. The ability to build coalitions and recruit both internal and external partners is important. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues. A positive attitude, strong organizational and time management skills, and comfort working under pressure are key attributes for success in this role.
