Description:
Congresswoman Lori Trahan seeks an experienced Legislative Director to lead the office's legislative operation and help drive her policy agenda.
Responsibilities:
The LD plays a central leadership role in the office, working closely with the Chief of Staff, Member, and District Director to develop and execute legislative strategy, and with the communications team to ensure that strategy is reflected in the office's messaging and media work. The LD will oversee a legislative team, manage a policy portfolio, and serve as the lead staffer for identifying and advancing legislative opportunities — including drafting legislation and amendments, preparing the Member for committee and floor activity, and developing vote recommendations. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the office's appropriations process, coordinating community project funding priorities with the District Director, and engaging with local stakeholders on the Congresswoman's agenda.
Qualifications:
At least 3-5 years of legislative experience in a congressional office or equivalent environment — this is not an entry-level position Deep knowledge of the legislative process and House procedure – and an eye for being scrappy with that knowledge Strong management skills and experience leading a legislative team preferred Sound judgment and the ability to anticipate and apply the Member's perspective across a wide range of policy issues Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage a high volume of competing priorities Willingness to work long hours, nights, weekends, and travel to the district as needed Background in health policy is strongly preferred.
