Description:
Congressman Lou Correa seeks an experienced full-time Senior Legislative Assistant to handle a diverse portfolio of issues.
Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the Legislative Director, Communications Director, District Office, and Chief of Staff to formulate and advance legislative initiatives for assigned issue areas. Plans, coordinates, and schedules to introduce legislation in the House. Tracks legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas to brief the Member for floor work, committee work, work in the district, and outside House-related activities. Provides district office staff with targeted information to assist preparation for community events and other meetings. Collaborates with the Communications Director on draft speeches, press releases, op-eds, and other statements for the Member. Prepares briefing materials for Member in advance of committee hearings, markups, and meetings. Serves as the Member's representative at meetings with constituents and other interest groups.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of Capitol Hill experience. An understanding of the legislative processes, government structures, and regulatory frameworks, and the ability to apply that knowledge effectively. Knowledge of and/or experience working on one or more of the assigned issue areas. Strong attention to detail, ensuring all work is thorough, accurate, and completed with care. Proven experience delivering high-quality products in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive materials for diverse audiences. Strong verbal communication and presentation abilities, including listening actively and tailoring messages to different contexts and stakeholders. Flexible and adaptable in responding to changing priorities, shifting circumstances, and evolving team or Member needs
